January 4, 2006 Still a jerk after all these years
Kiefer Sutherland, bad driver and drunken killer of Christmas trees
Ok, so it was the early '90s... I was stuck in traffic on Vine Street in Hollywood. The light turned green and I'm just hitting the gas when a black BMW speeds by from the parking lane and cuts me off from the right, forcing me to brake in a complete panic. Wanting to know what kind of &*%$ would do this, I sped up to see none other than a post-Young GunsKiefer Sutherland staring intently ahead from the wheel. And this was before cel phones so it was really just him being a jerk on purpose. Thus began my personal decade of Kiefer-loathing.
But hey, he's redeemed himself lately right? It was a long time ago that he was cutting people off & being dumped by Julia Roberts. He's got a hit show, a family, he's all growed up and mature!
OR MAYBE NOT. Well, unless you call attacking a London hotel's innocent 12 ft. Christmas tree & doing lame breakdance routines whilst undergoing near-alcohol poisoning* with his garage band... uhhh... "mature." And if you do, you're probably rushing Sigma Nu at Arizona State & not a 40-year-old man with 4 kids. Just sayin'.
*And you did this all while hanging out with & hitting on REPORTERS for the London Sunday Mirror!? Ooof, really bad call, dude.

Well, welcome to Totally Stupid, Rosanne. And y'know, after reading your post I can't help but agree. I mean, this is a clear case of throwing stones in glass houses. Honestly, I can't tell you how many times I've traveled to a foreign country, demanded to be served past the country's legal curfew until I'm falling down drunk in my hotel lobby, and then violently attacked their decor without ever once getting jailed for being drunk & disorderly. Hasn't everyone?
But that said... there is one slight difference. If you google my name along with the word "alcoholism?" You don't come up with 71,300 results.
Please. You care so much about Kiefer? Well, this man needs help, not excuses. I'm saying this in all seriousness now, because since I posted that article I discovered that many a patron of the watering holes near Hillhurst (my old neighborhood) have had firsthand "drunk Kiefer" experiences. Sure, he cut me off in traffic once... but that doesn't mean I wish him ill. Apparently it's not exactly a big secret that he's excessively fond of booze. People should help him instead of thinking his drunken rants are cute or funny, but that's not how LA treats celebrities. Maybe it's just me, but I find that kinda sad.

Leave Keifer alone! Why should you all be judges of his antics? I am sure each and every one of us has done things that could be just as harshly looked at by others!
